Close-up
of the 26 tpi threads in a bass
stock. The wood must be taken down
far enough so that the ferrule takes
the pressure from the hemp tenon,
and not the wood. This is often
seen in quality older pipes. The
threads serve not only to hold the
ferrule on, but also to
increase the surface area, which
puts less pressure on the ferrule.
The wood is very thin and delicate
during the threading process.
